Landschaftstheater Ballenberg – “Der Geltstag”: Jeremias Gotthelf's play about the rise and fall of an innkeeper family. Premiere 2025.
Der Geltstag - or the economy according to the new fashion
The affable Steffen's father has bought him an inn, the “Gnepfi”. The son thinks it is easy to run an inn. All he needs is the right woman who can cook and run the inn with him. Steffen finds the cheerful and carefree Eisi, they get married and many guests come to the “Gnepfi”. There is always money in the house and the innkeepers think that it will always be like this: easy and carefree. But when a new inn opens in the neighborhood, the wind changes.
Inexperienced and irresponsible, Eisi and Steffen refuse to believe that their luck is changing. After Steffen's sudden death, Eisi is forced to realize that her inn is in a state of disrepair. Bankruptcy and the day of reckoning arrive, and their entire estate is auctioned off.
