Excursion to the Appenzellerland in Urnäsch to the Silvesterchlausen with lunch at the Schnuggenbock and free time in Appenzell
In Appenzell, the turn of the year is celebrated twice. According to the Gregorian calendar on 31 December and according to the Julian calendar on 13 January. That's when the New Year's Eve lice are out and about and they distinguish between beautiful, wild and beautiful wild lice. They wear elaborate disguises and go from house to house, wishing everyone ‘es guets Nöis’ with devout singing and lively chants
We travel directly to Urnäsch, where we enjoy a longer stay and combine it with a coffee break. We are sure to see and hear the one or other ‘Schuppeln’ singing and ‘zauernd’ (natural yodelling). If you want to learn more about customs, visit the Appenzell Customs Museum. We then travel to Teufen, where lunch awaits us in the original Schnuggebock restaurant. Here everything is served in bowls, just like in grandma's day, and everyone eats until they have had enough. In the afternoon we have the opportunity to take a stroll through Appenzell and shop for cheese and other specialities.
