Visit what was once the largest civil defence shelter in the world. Lunch at the Alpgschwänd mountain restaurant, where you'll be impressed not only by the food...
Arrival in Lucerne. On a two-hour tour, you will experience a journey back in time to the 1970s. 15 stations provide an insight into the implementation of the national civil defence concept of 1971. The Sonnenberg was once the largest civil defence facility in the world; the giant bunker would have offered protection to around 20,000 people in an emergency. You will learn many interesting facts about this spectacular relic of the Cold War and the fear of nuclear attack, as well as how it is used today. At 11:15 a.m., continue to Hergiswil. The cable car will take you to Alpgschwänd in just 8 minutes. At the cosy ‘Alpgschwänd’ restaurant at 1216 metres above sea level, you can enjoy not only a fine lunch but also a wonderful view of the mountains of Central Switzerland and Lake Lucerne.
Lunch:
green salad with cherry tomatoes and croutons, Älplermagronen (a type of pasta) with mountain cheese, onions and apple sauce, served in the ‘Dachrinne’ restaurant, with farmhouse bratwurst and gravy, caramel pudding with cream.
